Class Act:
Henderson Independent High School
Through our "Class Act" program at Henderson Alternative School, we have been working with students using art, writing, and spoken word to help them discovery self worth, cope with the pressures of their life, and find healing from the pains they have suffered. Through our program we have effectively made great strides in their engagement and self worth.

Through creating art in a group setting, participants can cope with stresses and traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive abilities, enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of making art, improve self-esteem and use these cumulative benefits to produce healthy and positive change in their lives.

Selected artists are provided program stipends, art studio spaces, and facility resources so they can spend their time focusing on their creative practice. During their residency they are encouraged to hosts classes, lead programs, and host a gallery exhibition or performance.
